For the past 49 years, 45 spent at Brooklyn, Guernsey, and Malcom High School (BGM), students have counted on Corwin “Corky” Stuart. As aP.E. teacher and coach, Corky reaches nearly every student that passes through BGM. Described as “inspirational,” Corky is always looking for ways to improve his teaching practice, and his school community. His impact is felt throughout the district, whether as a volunteer at numerous athletic events, starting the Jump Rope for Heart program, building a Character Counts! Gaga pit for elementary kids to play in, even saving the BGM softball program by volunteering to coach the team when no one else stepped forward. Long associated with the BGM Wrestling community, Corky was named the 2002 State Junior High Wrestling Coach of the Year.
If Corky’s long career can be summed up in one sentence it may be these, “Mr. Stuart’s character and his influence on so many others’ character is something that has undoubtedly made a difference in this world.”
