Have you ever heard the phrase “don’t believe everything you think”?  How can that idea help you have civil conversations?

Imagine you are discussing the upcoming election with a friend.  You can’t believe that your friend supports the other candidate.  It’s easy to let our passions take over and admonish someone else’s beliefs as crazy or ridiculous.  After all, don’t we usually feel that our beliefs are the right ones?

To show respect for others, we should remember that other people are entitled to their own opinions.  And, just because we disagree with others doesn’t mean we should be disrespectful. When you begin a conversation with the intention of showing respect, it will be much easier to have a civil conversation.
