There is a big difference between what you have the right to do and what is right to do.

There are many things that are legal, but are certainly not ethical. For example, it is not illegal to be rude to someone, or lie to your friends, or be closed-minded.

Ethics are standards that tell us how we should behave – they are what we strive for. The law provides guides to what is the least that is expected of us.

In the next post we’ll discuss what is an ethical response to a law or rule you disagree with.

In the meantime, can you think of any actions that are ethical but illegal?
