Dr. George Belitsos is the founder and Chief Executive Officer Emeritus of Youth and Shelter Services, Inc. (YSS). He served as CEO for 39 years and retired from his position in 2015. George has been a trusted resource for the community and the youth of Iowa for over four decades and has counseled hundreds of young people facing homelessness, addiction, and loss. George has been recognized on both national and state levels for his leadership, service, and advocacy for youth. He was a Presidential appointee to the National Advisory Committee for Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. He chaired the Committee to Advise the National Institute for Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention for four years. He was also a gubernatorial appointee and served on the Iowa Crime Commission for 16 years.
Even after his retirement from his position with YSS, George remains active in the community by serving as the board chair of the Iowa Network Against Human Trafficking. “George gives a voice to the voiceless and believes in people before they believe in themselves,” said Amy Hutter, Director of Marketing and Communications for YSS.
